Short version: there are no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking. When you ask Bean Bye to identify something, the photo or name you chose is sent to an AI service to produce the estimate, and we don't keep it. Your collection stays on your device.
When you take or pick a photo to identify, or search by name, the app sends that photo (resized and compressed) or the name you typed over an encrypted HTTPS connection to our server, a Cloudflare Worker run by us. The server forwards it to OpenRouter, which routes the request to the AI model provider, currently Google (Gemini models), only to generate the identification and value estimate. We ask OpenRouter to use only providers that do not store requests or train on them.
Our server does not save your photos, searches or results. It keeps short-lived request counters, so one device can't use up the service for everyone. They are keyed by a hashed random install ID the app creates (not your name, Apple ID or advertising ID) and a hashed IP address, and they are deleted automatically within 48 hours. Cloudflare, which hosts our server, may keep standard request logs for a short time to run and protect its network.
Your collection, its photos, values, achievements and your first name or nickname (if you enter one) are stored only on your iPhone, inside the app's own storage. We have no access to them.
Bean Bye asks for camera and photo-library access only so you can photograph or choose a plush to identify, and to save farewell certificates to your photo library when you ask it to. Only the photo you choose to scan is sent, as described above.
No sign-in, no advertising, no analytics or tracking SDKs, no sale or sharing of personal data, and no tracking across apps or websites.
Bean Bye is free to try, with one optional in-app purchase that unlocks unlimited scans. The app keeps only an "unlocked" flag and a count of free scans on your iPhone, and asks Apple to confirm the purchase; nothing about it is sent to us. Apple handles App Store purchases, downloads and payments under Apple's Privacy Policy. If you have turned on "Share With App Developers", Apple may give us anonymous crash and usage statistics, which we use only to fix problems.
Bean Bye is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
Delete items in the app, or delete the app to remove all of its data from your device. There is nothing stored about you on our server to delete.
If we change how data is handled, for example by switching AI providers, we will update this policy before that version is released.
